2013 Tilly Caddy

Tilly Caddy is a Senior Landscape Architect at Four Landscape Studio. She graduated from the UWA Bachelor of Landscape Architecture in 2013.

What was your most memorable class from your time at UWA, and why?
Tilly Caddy – First year Art History with Charlie Mann, using his personal holiday slides of Egypt as lecture slides. Or the Freo Farm project for Garden Studio with Grant Revell, I feel that this was the project where it 'really clicked' for me. Creating a plant profile document in the Plants unit with Tinka Sack was also memorable.

During your time as a student, who was a key person of influence in developing your approach to landscape architecture, and why?
TC – Julian Bolleter and Paul Verity, for their layered site analysis apporach.

Could share a significant project that you’ve worked or are working on?
TC – The campus landscape for the International School of WA. This was the first education project I had built that was 100% made up of items requested by the staff and students. We undertook a series of workshops and the school did additional class activities which we distilled to provide a large playground enhancement and outdoor education opportunities.

What is a moment that stands out for you, in your career so far?
TC – After working on the the International School of WA, it was amazing to see the school's social media post images and videos of the students using and enjoying their campus, in an outdoor learning context.

Do you have any advice for current landscape architecture students at the School of Design?
TC – The profession is so wide and varied compared to the projects you may be exposed to at Uni. Don't be disheartened if general project construction, subdivisions or gardens don't necessarily excite you.

This interview was undertaken in 2022. It has been edited for clarity and cohesion.
